Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are text files which are saved in or by the internet browser in the user’s computer system. If users access a website, a cookie can be saved on the users’ operating systems. This cookie contains a characteristic string of characters which enables definitive identification of the browser the next time the website is accessed.

Blocking and deleting cookies

Browsers generally offer various configuration options for cookies. These options allow the user to adjust their privacy levels so that, for example, cookies received from a website are rejected or old cookies are deleted. To change these settings, you can consult your browser’s help section or ask its developers. Cookies which have already been saved can be deleted at any time. This can also happen on an automated basis. If cookies are deactivated for a website, the full range of functions of the website may not be entirely available for use.

What cookies do we use?

At the Inequality Hub, we prioritize user privacy and implement privacy-friendly analytics using Matomo Analytics through the WordPress Matomo plugin. Matomo is an open-source web analytics platform. The analytics platform is used by the Inequality Hub team to measure, collect, analyse, and report visitor’s data for the dissemination and reporting of project purposes only. For more information, we advise you to visit: https://matomo.org/.

Matomo settings are customized, so that analytics data (a) contains no personally identifiable information, (b) is only used for analysis and no other purpose, and (c) is not shared or connected with data from other websites. For this reason, the visitor’s IP address is anonymized. User ID tracking and content tracking are disabled. We have also disabled first-party analytics cookies and all third-party cookies.

Data Security and Retention

All analytics data are fully under our control. This data is not saved together with other personal data relating to the user. We do not share this data with third parties, and we ensure that any data collected is deleted after the final annual totals have been gathered for project related access statistics.

Opting-Out Functions

Of course, you can object to your data being collected. The following methods are available to you if you wish to object to data collection by the server:

  1. In your browser, activate the Do-Not-Track setting. If this setting is active, our server does not save any of your data. Important: Do-Not-Track generally only applies to the one device and browser on which the setting is activated. If you use several devices/browsers, you must activate Do-Not-Track separately on each one.
  2. Use our opt-out function. Click on the check mark in the following selection box in order to stop or re-activate data collection. If the selection box is deactivated, our central server does not save any of your data. Important: We have to save a special recognition cookie in your browser for the opt-out function. If you delete this or use a different PC/browser, you have to object to data collection once again on this page.

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.

Changes to Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect any changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Please revisit this page periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies.
