Dr. Simone Schneider, Principal Investigator of the PERGAP project, will join the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence as a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the Department of Political and Social Sciences from September to December 2026.
The Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowships provide established scholars with the opportunity to pursue their research in residence at the EUI while becoming part of the academic life of one of its four departments.
For Simone and PERGAP, the fellowship offers a valuable opportunity to engage with the research community of the EUI Department of Political and Social Sciences (SPS). The Department is a leading European centre for research in comparative politics, political behaviour and political sociology, the sociology of inequality, analytic sociology, and international relations. Its research pays particular attention to the relationship between institutions and their behavioural contexts and addresses major contemporary questions including socio-economic inequality, welfare-state transformation, solidarity, and social and political change.
These areas of research closely connect with PERGAP’s central concern: understanding how institutional arrangements shape perceptions, evaluations, and preferences concerning social and economic inequality. PERGAP combines comparative research on welfare-state institutions with the study of how individuals perceive and make sense of inequality. The EUI’s strong expertise in inequality, welfare states, political behaviour, institutions, and comparative sociology therefore provides an ideal environment for developing and discussing the project’s research.
