Dr. Simone Schneider introduced the PERGAP project in a talk entitled The (Mis)Perception of Inequality in Comparative Perspective in the colloquium of the Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) jointly hosted by the University of Zurich and the ETH Zurich.

In her talk, Simone outlined the key arguments of the PERGAP project, connecting them to both past and current research in the fields of comparative sociology, psychology and social policy. The talk drew a diverse and interdisciplinary audience of CIS members, including PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, and professors.

The presentation sparked a lively discussion on several important topics, such as the institutional conceptualisation of social disparities, the comparability of inequality measurements at national and local levels, and the relationship between institutions and cognitive processes in shaping perceptions of inequality, to name just a few. These discussions highlighted both the theoretical depth and practical implications of the future work of the PERGAP project.

In addition to the formal presentation, Simone engaged in one-on-one discussions with social scientists of the University of Zurich, fostering opportunities for academic exchange and sparking ideas that warrant further exploration.

Special thanks go to Prof. Silja Häusermann for her invitation and for being an outstanding host.
