Dr. Simone Schneider introduced the PERGAP project in her talk The (Mis)Perception of Economic Inequality: The Impact of Welfare State Institutions on Social Perception & Preference Formation at the In_equality Colloquium hosted by the Cluster of Excellence “The Politics of Inequality” at the University of Konstanz.

In her presentation, Simone outlined the key arguments of the PERGAP project, linking them to both past and current research in the fields of comparative sociology, psychology and political science. The colloquium attracted a diverse and interdisciplinary audience, including PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, and professors in person and online.

The talk prompted a lively discussion on several key topics, particularly on policy feedback theory and the mechanisms through which social policies shape perceptions and preference formation regarding income redistribution, educational policy, and related areas. These discussions underscored the theoretical importance of one of the PERGAP project’s central objectives.

In addition to the formal presentation, Simone engaged in productive discussions with various members of the Cluster of Excellence and the Department of Sociology and the Department of Politics and Public Administration, sparking ideas for further research and collaboration.

Special thanks go to Prof. Susanne Strauß for her invitation and for being a gracious host.
